HISTORICAL NOTES
* There were a few staffeln with single engine fighters designated as night fighter staffeln in the south and north of Germany. One of these covered the airspace around Cologne and the other the North Sea coastline. There was no co-ordination with search lights or radar and they were usually flying at dusk or dawn. Arado Ar 68, Messerschmitt Bf 109D and E were used.
* The He 100 was never operational. 12 may have been used to defend the Marienehe Heinkel plant for a short period in the beginning of the war. It is not likely that this unit saw any action against the allies since no bombers or fighters went that deep into Germany. Some propaganda photos of a "He 113" night fighter (actually a He 100) were taken, but it appears that this night fighter never really existed. For historical correctness treat this He 100 as a Bf 109E.
* The Bf 110 appeared again after the Polish Campaign in late November over northern France, then in December over Heligoland Bight. 12 Wellingtons were shot down by Bf 110s on december 14th.
